Los Alamos National Laboratory Computer Systems Professional 2/3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing System 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Use your SharePoint service skills to support national security! Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for a SharePoint Administrator 2/3 to join our Core Services Group, in the Network Infrastructure and Engineering Division. Our Group provides support to SharePoint web sites across the laboratory on classified and unclassified networks. This team member will allow the service support team to function at a highly loaded but manageable workload level and provide support for the service during all core business hours. The primary focus of this position is Windows server administration of multiple Microsoft SharePoint application server farms and Kemp load balancers. Computer Systems Professional 2 ($75,400 - $122,900)

The SharePoint Administrator 2 will be a member of the Collaboration Team which supports classified and unclassified networks at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The team provides tier 3 level customer and technician support, maintenance and patching of virtual Windows application servers, and will draft and maintain both server and user support documentation.

Computer Systems Professional 3 ($91,800 - $151,400)

In addition to what was outlined at the SharePoint Administrator 2 the SharePoint Administrator 3 will develop scripts to automate reoccurring tasks and plan and execute the expected migration to Office 365 within next three years.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge in administration, configuration & customization of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems including systems monitoring and capacity planning

Technical Communication

Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to interact with customers, field technicians, system administrators, project and information security teams, large audiences and senior management

Tools and Systems

Ability to develop and use PowerShell one-liner scripts with functions, loops and pipelines plan as well as coordinate and execute a side by side operating system or application upgrade for a farm or cluster of application servers.

Customer Relations

Proven ability to satisfy customer requirements as demonstrated by the ability to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways


Experience working as a productive member of an interdisciplinary team, including the demonstrated ability to develop solutions for a wide range of complex problems while effectively networking with peers inside and outside of the organization.

Education/Experience at 2 level

Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Job Requirements for SharePoint Administrator 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the SharePoint Administrator 3 require:

Technical Knowledge

In-depth understanding and experience of SharePoint administration, Scripting/Automation, log reviews, incident analysis, and identification of issue trends, server patch management methodologies and troubleshooting issues in a growing environment

Customer Relations

Experience working independently, without supervision, analyzing a situation, designing, and communicating solutions to senior management and customers

Education/Experience at higher level:

Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge

Understanding of domain name system (DNS) including recursive queries, and A, CName and SRV records, certificate based cryptographic protocols S/MIME, SSL and TLS and server load balancing

Tools and Systems

Previous experience administering Windows Office Suite application server environments and systems and the ability to write advanced Internet search queries and effectively utilize vendor support and Microsoft web application servers web sites


Experience using LANL or other DOE systems.


Active DOE “Q” clearance

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
