Los Alamos National Laboratory Computer Scientist 2- Advanced Document & Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Content; Configuration, Requirements, & Change Management (Scientist 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

At LANL, we solve national security challenges through scientific, technological, and engineering excellence. The Weapons Research Services, Weapons Mission Technology (WRS-WMT) group is seeking a computer scientist who will research, analyze, design, develop, implement, and manage advanced content repository for LANL’s Weapons mission software suite of tools and technologies.

The selected candidate will work with Product Data/Lifecycle Management (PDM/PLM) solutions such as Windchill PDMLink, CAD tools such as Creo, and requirements management systems to manage critical document and CAD data, requirements content, configuration and change management, and workflows. The selected candidate will be enthusiastic, innovative, and creative, as well as, work well with the team, user community, vendors, and other DOE Laboratories. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have work experience with web-based programming and should have the ability to program in Java, Java Script, HTML, SQL, and XML and strive to foster a collaborative environment and partnerships to develop and deploy novel solutions and explore emergent, digital technologies.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge:

Advanced knowledge and experience in PTC suite of products. Thorough knowledge and experience in the design, development, and implementation of computer content and document management systems. Thorough knowledge and experience in developing and implementing technical research and development projects, including the formulation, testing, and investigation of alternative solutions, and recommendation of solutions to technical problems.

Software Development:

Demonstrated experience in the software development and sustainment lifecycle to include design, development, modification, testing, debugging, evaluation of soware to meet technical and functional requirements, maintenance, and decommissioning of soware. Experience contributing to the development of technical standards.

Software Engineering:

Knowledge of software engineering, research, design, and development methodologies, tools and processes, including software development methodology framework, source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, development and management, programming languages, and component integration. Experience with customizing COTS applications and configuring graphical user interfaces (GUI).

Computing Environment:

Thorough knowledge and experience with hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor’ degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 4 years of related experience, typically with post‐doctoral research experience at a university or national lab or equivalent experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and/or Configuration Management (CM) and Requirements Management systems.

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Manufacturing Data Management (MPM) systems.

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Mechanical Computer-Aided Design (MCAD) and/or Electrical Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) tools.

  • Knowledge of Application Program Interface (API) frameworks and REST services.

  • Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with staff, administrators, and other internal and external partners.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Nuclear Security Enterprise’s (NSE) Design Agency (DA) and Production Agency (PA) roles, relationships, and system integrations.

  • An active DOE Q Clearance.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
