What You Will Do_
The Intelligence and Space Research Division (ISR) has a great opportunity for a Computer Scientist 1/2. Come join a vital team that provides cutting edge systems in support of national and global security challenges. This position will be filled at one of the Scientist 1 or 2 levels depending on current programmatic needs and the skills of the selected candidate.
Scientist 1 ($80,100 - $131,000)
Integration of systems into externally provided systems and legacy systems
Researching new hardware and software methodologies and network configuration management
Monitor system state of health, system backups and system security compliance
Assisting in the delivery of progress reports to project leaders, sponsors and help define project plans and milestones
Scientist 2 ($87,800 - $144,800)
_In addition to the duties outlines above, the Scientist 2 responsibilities include:
Authoring and maintain, as needed, software libraries and tools necessary in support of various projects
Refining team objectives
Working with the team in scheduling commitments and resources
Providing leadership and help mentor other team members
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with the following:
Hands-on experience and proficiency writing scripts, programming in Python or C language along with Linux OS knowledge (RHEL/CentOS/Fedora).
Experience with Linux virtualization frameworks (QEMU, KVM, oVirt, RHV, etc) and Linux containers.
Experience facilitating general deployment of developed systems including diagnostics and problem resolution of various operational problems. These may include reliability, performance and availability.
Experience providing support in the development of the systems and the various applications tools to assist in the integration process.
Experience with development, deployment, testing and integration of specialized systems, system and network configuration management, development of test suits and plans and developing required information assurance documentation for delivery.
Additional Job Requirements for Scientist 2:
Experience with setting the direction of goals for project tasks and establish associated scope, schedule and budgets.
Ability to enhance technical and professional expertise of other staff through active mentoring and training.
Experience acquiring internal/external funding for self and others via responses to competitive requests for proposals and developed collaborations.
Experience contributing to peer review of work of others across organizations or disciplines.
Must have hands on experience with software configuration management (SVN, GIT)
Must have hands on experience with system configuration management (CFEngine2/3)
Experience support systems hardware and software investigations along with performance and stability testing with ISR’s various network infrastructures.
Experience assisting in the design and development of ISR’s various R&D; and production heterogeneous computing environments.
Experience supporting ISR mission stake holders on various systems when necessitated by users feature requests, bugs or vulnerabilities.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science or math from an accredited college or university is required for both levels. A Master’s degree in the above fields is highly desirable.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work in the Intelligence and Space Research Division (ISR) spans the R&D; efforts for developing new technology, prototyping of hardware and software, acquisition and integration of operational payload and ancillary support systems for various customers. ISR-3 System Integration is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of complex systems in secure and open environments in support of data acquisition and telemetry systems. This division is tasked with large-scale data storage and archive, embedded systems, real-time control systems, computer-aided design, scientific programming and computing, high-performance computing, reconfigurable computing, machine learning and distributed sensor networks.
Through the creation, delivery, and support of reliable, secure and innovative detection systems in space and around the globe, applies its diverse core capabilities in remote sensing technologies, satellite command, control and mission processing and on-board and real-time signal processing.
