What You Will Do

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position in the areas of electrical, instrumentation and control, mechanical, structural/civil, or fire protection.

  • Supporting configuration management

  • Defining and controlling system modification

  • Implementing the authorization basis

  • Maintaining the technical baseline

  • Monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems

  • Defining maintenance requirements

  • Troubleshooting

  • Performing root cause analysis

  • Preparing corrective maintenance instructions for complex or critical operations

  • Performing engineered equivalency analysis

  • Providing field implementation of the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in design engineering or system engineering for nuclear or industrial facility operations

  • Demonstrated experience with industry codes and standards

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance

  • Demonstrated experience with modification definition and control

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline from ABET accredited college

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance

  • Experience in a nuclear facility

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is primarily responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and conducting research into new defense programs. The Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) within ES Division assigned to the Facility System Engineering & Management (ES-FE) Group is responsible for plant engineering services and the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program implementation at LANL. The COE program elements including processes, standards, training, and qualification are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility. They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements, needs, and expectations in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner.
