Los Alamos National Laboratory Application Security Architect (Cybersecurity Technical Staff 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

We are looking for an Application Security Architect to join our Security Architecture team as a technical leader to drive the maturation of application security solutions and disciplines at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It is our team’s mission to provide oversight for the institution’s information system and security architecture through strategic planning and solution development on both classified and unclassified networks.

The Application Security Architect will contribute to the planning, research, design, and debugging of a robust security architecture for the enterprise. Our team of architects are aligned with security domains (i.e infrastructure and endpoint security, application security, identity and access management, and data protection and privacy) and often work across multiple areas developing their security expertise in their core competency as well as new technologies and disciplines. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Program:

Demonstrated experience providing program vision, developing solution strategy and roadmaps, building and defending business cases, planning projects, and leading cross functional teams in support of modernizing a solution architecture.

Technical Architecture:

Demonstrated experience designing and integrating Application Security solutions, secure software development principles, design patterns, governance, defensive measures, and security controls into an enterprise defense-in-depth architecture in support of a secure SDLC while complying with regulatory requirements, governance, and the industry best practices such as NIST, CISA, DoD, OWASP, ISC2, or SANS.

Technologies:

Advanced knowledge of enterprise-grade Application Security technologies (e.g. WAF, SAST, DAST, and SCA) including experience in enterprise security software development with the ability to design, develop, troubleshoot, exploit, or mitigate enterprise applications.

Communication:

Outstanding written and oral technical communication skills as evidenced by the ability to provide guidance to diverse teams and managers, successfully communicate to a variety of stakeholders, and document complex technical and procedural information.

Team Dynamics:

Demonstrated ability to independently lead, manage, and/or work as part of a diverse team of technical professionals to support multiple concurrent tasks with changing programmatic priorities.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 8 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Security operations experience involving event analysis and correlation

  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise-grade security solutions (e.g. WAF, NGFW, IDS/IPS)

  • Automated analysis and scripting with Python or similar languages

  • Experience in the automation of application security controls and components

  • Advanced knowledge of secure SDLC, application security best practices, exploits, mitigations, and frameworks

  • Experience with baselines, standards, guidelines, reviews, threat modeling, host based security, data governance, manual and automated software analysis and tools including pen testing, training program development, metrics collection and analytics

  • Familiarity with governance and compliance for US federal agencies

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year .

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
