Los Alamos National Laboratory Acoustic Science & Technology Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary team to conduct research on the science and technology of ultrasonic/acoustic interrogation of complex structures. The aim of the project is to study the behavior of acoustic waves in complex media with localized and extended non-uniformities as well as interfaces between solids and fluids. The current fields of interest for the project are: modeling and simulation studies of ultrasonic wave propagation in such media, experimental validation of such simulation results, and development of prototype and/or deployable systems for diagnostics and monitoring. Specific target applications include non-invasive acoustic measurement of properties of fluids inside vessels at high temperatures, and use of nonlinear concepts and metamaterials for enhanced acoustic detection of defects. The successful candidate will to work closely with other experimental and theoretical/computational scientists and engineers at Los Alamos, as well as on joint projects with industry. There will be extensive opportunities to work in a wide range of areas and to innovate.
Experience in structural health monitoring (SHM), non-destructive evaluation (NDE), non-invasive testing, electrical measurements, building complex experimental setups, sensor development, or modeling and simulation using common software platforms, such as COMSOL, PYTHON, and MATLAB, will be considered as important assets.
