Los Alamos National Laboratory Accounting Assistant 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Payroll Accounting Assistant (Accounting Assistant 4) is an accounting assistant position that supports the Craft payroll timekeeping functional team. This position reports directly to the Craft Payroll Team Leader, receiving functional and operational direction from the designated supervisor/manager or his/her designee(s). The focus of this position is on the union time and effort data entry the payroll timekeeping team. Job duties include: data entry including verification, customer service (emails & phone), electronic filing and archiving. This position requires availability to periodically work outside of the normal work week. Requires accuracy, strong analytical and time management skills, ability to work independently, and to identify and resolve routine problems. Must have a strong work ethic, ability to meet deadlines and proven record of excellent attendance.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Accounting Assistant Experience:

Working knowledge of electronic timekeeping systems and LANL craft payroll work processes and techniques, concepts and terminology. Ability to work continuously and accurately with figures; perform arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division; accurately compare and transcribe figures with excellent attention to detail.

Confidentiality:

Demonstrated awareness of the importance of confidentiality and requirements surrounding personally identifiable information (PII).

Communication Skills:

Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with others and to assimilate and understand information.

Technical Experience:

Proficient with various computer software programs such as Microsoft Office and E-mail; must have demonstrated working knowledge in Word and Excel. Familiarity with financial programs, software, or ERP systems.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to execute priorities and assigned business and financial assignments within strict time deadlines. Demonstrated experience organizing and prioritizing tasks with the ability to work effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Proven record of high productivity, accuracy and attention to detail.

Teamwork:

Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team. Ability to promote team success by offering help to others. Ability to take on additional tasks and seek opportunities to learn new tasks.

Direction:

Ability to provide operational direction, advice, training and mentoring to departmental staff, if assigned.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a minimum of 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, such as college level business courses.

Desired Qualifications:

  • One (1) year work experience with LANL union craft timekeeping.

  • One (1) year work experience with spreadsheets, electronic financial or payroll systems

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served at least one year of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
