What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant 3 to support the Controller Division. In this role, you will have the ability to share your expertise supporting the Disbursements Group and become a member of the Travel Department.
The Travel Department provides support services for reservations and reimbursement functions, as well as relocation reimbursement for new hires and employees on long-term external assignments for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This position will report to the Controller Disbursements (CNTL-DISB) Group Leader supporting domestic and foreign reservations, expense report processing, as well as relocation for new hires and employees on long-term external assignments. This position will ensure compliance under a complex set of federal regulations and will oversee the use of the reimbursement system and online reservations tool. Will be responsible for ensuring appropriate internal controls and proper accounting treatment of all transactions. This position will be expected to provide solutions to a variety of complex issues. LANL uses Concur Travel and Expense for domestic and foreign expense report processing and reservations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated skills in the travel industry with an emphasis on handling complex travel situations.
Knowledge of accounting/financial concepts and principles to include application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and proper application of internal controls for a disbursement operation and the ability to identify process improvements and developing strategies and procedures to implement and improve processes and controls.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience researching, gathering, analyzing data, summarizing results, resolving problems and issues both independently and as a team member.
Compliance, Customer Service, Teamwork
Broad knowledge and demonstrated experience interpreting federal travel regulations. Demonstrated ability in providing strong customer service with excellent interpersonal skills; Demonstrated experience effectively interacting with customers, staff, senior level management and stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively achieve decisions and consensus on significant actions, projects, program goals, and/or objectives. Proven ability in leading initiatives for change and improvements.
Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced technical skills in Excel. Experience using automated reservations and travel expense reimbursement systems.
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation ; master’s degree preferred.
MBA/CPA or advanced degree in a related field
Travel Regulations and experience with DOE regulations with regard to external assignments and conference travel
Working knowledge and experience with Concur Travel and Expense
In-depth knowledge of LANL Travel policies

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. The Telework Pilot is in effect from Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, but may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
