Los Alamos National Laboratory Accountant 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant 1 to support the Controller Division. In this role, you will have the ability to provide General Ledger Team support and become a member of the Controller-Financial Reporting (CNTL-FINRPT) Group.

The Controller group provides accounting services to LANL. The selected candidate will report to the Controller Financial Reporting (CNTL-FINRP) Group Team Leader and will support the group mission by; insuring the integrity of all LANL financial data, insuring income statements and balance sheets are accurately stated for both internal and external customers, running the month and year-end closing cycles, analyzing data, solving problems that requires complete understanding how a complex financial enterprise system works, approve journal entries, and provide answers to auditors and other data requestors as required .

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Accounting Experience

Knowledge of accounting/financial concepts and principles to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Understanding of accounting and finance functions. Demonstrated knowledge preparing financial management procedures and reports. Understanding the application of internal controls for accounting operations, knowledge of understanding using accounting enterprise systems (ERP).

Problem Solving

Basic knowledge of identifying performance deficiencies at the operational level and recommending strategies, procedures, and practice modifications to implement, improve, and enhance functional responsibility across the organization.

Customer Service, Organization, Teamwork and Dependability

Ability to maintain organization and prioritization with proven ability to follow through completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities. Demonstrated ability in providing excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively present detailed information of significance in a clear and coherent manner.

Technology

Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education/Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding DOE Standard Accounting and Reporting Systems.

  • Experience working in a fully integrated enterprise system. Project accounting, general ledger, disbursements, reimbursable work, multiple set of books, and a working knowledge how system is interrelated.

  • Technical acumen for information technology is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or advanced degree in a related field.

Location: This position will be part of the Laboratory’s Telework Pilot and may work from a remote/home location within a two-hour ground commute of the Laboratory. Employee participation in the Telework Pilot may be shortened or extended at the manager’s discretion. Ability to report on-site is a must for this position.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
