Los Alamos National Laboratory 2022 Summer High School Internship Program in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Summer High School Internship Program provides qualified northern New Mexico high school seniors the opportunity to develop skills and gain work experience, while receiving exposure to a variety of career fields. Students who participate in this program have the opportunity to intern during the summer, prior to beginning their senior year of high school.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Students who wish to participate in the High School Internship Program must meet all the following requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age and have senior standing at the time the internship begins

  • Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Attend a high school located in northern New Mexico

  • Pass a pre-employment drug test

  • Apply during the spring semester of your junior year in order to be considered for an internship the summer prior to beginning your senior year

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Where You Will Work

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Non-U.S. Citizens: Non-U.S. citizens selected for an internship will need prior approval to visit the Lab. Approval in the Foreign Visits Tracking System (FVTS) is required before the internship can begin. FVTS approvals can take 30-120 days to process.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to PolicyPolicy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.
