Los Alamos National Laboratory Professional Staff Assistant for NCERC-FO (Professional Staff Assistant 1) in Las Vegas, Nevada

What You Will Do

NCERC-FO is seeking a Professional Staff Assistant as a team member who reports to the NCERC-FOD, supporting high hazard and high security work activities associated with the Global Security mission at NNSS. The NCERC-FO team, located at the NNSS, works under constantly changing priorities, quick turn-around and deadlines and makes decisions that have a high impact on the performance and perception of the Laboratory.

Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Being an effective, supportive, trustworthy, and customer-focused member of the team requires close cooperation and communication, adaptability, taking initiative in completing tasks, and willingness to provide support wherever needed.

  • Frequent interactions with other Labs, the Nevada Field Office, and the NNSS M&O contractor to coordinate and plan operations.

  • Active participation in frequent teleconference calls with staff at the home Laboratory and NNSA.

  • Assume responsibilities with minimal supervision and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Responsible for designing and implementing administrative policies and procedures as NCERC operations at the NNSS expand.

  • Act as a resource regarding LANL, LLNL, and NNSS policies and procedures.

  • Perform classic administrative duties (e.g. purchase requests, Time and Labor, domestic travel, calendar management, records management, vehicle maintenance records, facility service requests, visitor processing, etc.)

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven competence in providing high-level administrative support in a busy office environment, including interfacing with all levels of personnel.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (interpersonal, verbal, and written) while interacting effectively with all levels of employees and managers.

  • Demonstrated experience with solving problems, developing solutions, and innovating business practices to ensure customer and sponsor satisfaction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining excellent quality in daily operational work, as well as the fine-tuned skills of organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion multiple projects with frequent interruptions under strict deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience working constructively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary group environment.

  • Experience building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

  • Demonstrate initiative, versatility, and accuracy in the performance of their work product.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and excellence as evidenced by exemplary work products.

  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship. (Selected candidate will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.)

Education/Experience :

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

  • Undergraduate coursework may be expected at this level.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Designated Procurement Representative (DPR) experience.

  • Knowledge of LANL-specific business systems, including Oracle, UTrain, Sunflower, iProcurement; knowledge of LANL records management processes.

  • An active Q clearance.

  • An active HRP Certification.

Note to Applicants:

Location: This position will be physically located in Las Vegas, NV. NCERC provides the capability to conduct hands-on and remotely operated experiments with significant quantities of nuclear material to a variety of national security programs. This capability, which became operational in 2010, supports both critical and subcritical experiments and training. NCERC-FO provides the operational backbone for the NCERC. The NCERC is operated within a hazard category 2 nuclear facility located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. SeeDOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
