What You Will Do
Located in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory-Carlsbad Operations (LANL-CO), Repository Science and Operations (RSO) Program provides technical expertise on transuranic (TRU) waste treatment, packaging, characterization, acceptable knowledge, transportation, inventory, and actinide chemistry to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) which oversees the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The successful candidate will perform a wide range of duties supporting a multidisciplinary team ensuring compliance with CBFO Quality Assurance (QA) Program requirements.
This position will be filled at either the TRU Waste Quality Assurance Specalist 1 or TRU Waste Quality Assurance Specalist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level .
TRU Waste Quality Assurance Specalist 1 ($77,300 - $126,000)
The successful candidate will work in the Carlsbad, New Mexico, office serving as TRU Waste QA Specialist. The TRU Waste QA Specialist will work under the direction of the QA Manager. Responsibilities include maintaining adequate implementation of CBFO QA Program requirements; supporting document control and records management activities; performing and supporting audits, surveillances, and assessments; facilitating and tracking required QA training; reviewing potential supplier qualifications and generating reports; reviewing and approving purchase orders; and developing reports for review and approval.
TRU Waste Quality Assurance Specalist ($94,100 - $155,700)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the TRU Waste QA Specialist will work with minimum direction from the QA Manager. Additional responsibilities include developing and revising program documents and procedures; providing oversight to document control and records management activities; managing audits, surveillances, and assessments; identifying conditions adverse to quality, ensuring proper disposition and closure; ensuring employees receive required QA training; qualifying potential suppliers and maintaining qualified supplier list; reviewing and approving Quality Level 1 procurements; reviewing scientific notebooks; and performing grading, trending, and analyses.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience with DOE, WIPP, or LANL QA Program requirements.
Demonstrated experience with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) compliance.
Demonstrated experience with quality concepts and principles, such as customer focus, management system principles, continuous improvement methods, etc.
Demonstrated experience with Records Inventory and Disposition Schedules (RIDs).
Demonstrated experience in technical writing and editing.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated experience presenting material to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated experience interfacing effectively with all levels of management, employees, customers, and DOE organizations.
Ability to obtain a DOE Q-clearance.
Additional Job Requirements for QA Specalist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Demonstrated experience writing program documents and procedures adequately implementing NQA-1, and other applicable state and federal regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated experience leading audits as an NQA-1 Lead Auditor.
Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining RIDs.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Demonstrated database and spreadsheet development and maintenance.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Information Science; or, a combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Information Science and 5 years related experience; or, a combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
ASME NQA-1 Lead Auditor Qualification.
Microsoft Office Specialist Access Certification.
Project Management Professional Certification.
Current DOE Q-clearance.
